Watch: NHL opens season with a banner unveiling and a highlight reel with plenty of goals
Hockey is back! And it was glorious.
The NHL opened its season with 5 games and plenty of goals. Every team that won last night posted 5 or more goals except for the Blues who won with 4.
NHL Action for January 13th, 2021
The game of the night was the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs led the game three different times, once by a margin of 3-1 only to see the Leafs storm back and win it in OT with a goal from Morgan Rielly.

In other action, the Flyers topped the Penguins 6-3 showing why I believe they are the best team in the East Division. The Lightning easily dealt with a depleted Blackhawks team. While the Canucks picked up from last season beating the Oilers 5-3. Finally, the Blues soundly knocked off the Avalanche 4-1.
Lightning unveil the Banner
The Tampa Bay Lightning unveiled their 2020 Stanley Cup banner but did not raise it to the rafters. Captain Steven Stamkos delivered a message to the fans why they chose to do so.
“In sports they say trophies are for the teams, rings are for the players, and banners are for the fans,” the Lightning captain began. “But we feel that we owe it to you to unveil now, and keep it in place until we can raise high until we can gather safely again.”
What a save!
Last night, young Malcolm Subban was under siege in net last night. He had a rough night but did make a sparkling save that is an early “save of the year” candidate.
Vegas and Detroit name their captains, New York does not
The Vegas Golden Knights have named Mark Stone, and the Detroit Red Wings give the C to Dylan Larkin. The New York Rangers on the other hand have opted not to name a captain and go with four alternates again.
