Vancouver Canucks sign 2019 first-rounder Vasily Podkolzin to entry-level contract
The Vancouver Canucks signed former first-round pick Vasily Podkolzin to a three-year, entry-level deal Sunday.
The 19-year-old forward from Russia was the No. 10 overall selection in the 2019 draft.
Podkolzin, 19, appeared in 35 games with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League this season, recording 11 points (5-6-11) and 15 penalty minutes. He helped his team advance to the third round of the playoffs, leading the club in scoring with 11 points (6-5-11) in 16 playoff games and finishing t-7th in KHL playoff scoring.

He tallied 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 35 games with SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League this season, adding another 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 16 playoff contests.
“Vasily is a competitor who plays an aggressive game,” Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a news release. “He’s effective using his size and skill to get to the net and produce offensively. We’re pleased to sign him today and look forward to adding him to our young core of skilled players.”
Internationally, Podkolzin represented Russia at the last three IIHF World Junior Championships (2019-21) and had 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 21 games. The team won bronze in 2019 and silver in 2020.
