Trade Alert: Golden Knights acquire Evgenii Dadonov from Senators; likely out of Jack Eichel sweepstakes

The Vegas Golden Knights acquired forward Evgenii Dadonov from the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday in exchange for defenseman Nick Holden and a third-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Golden Knights trade for Evgenii Dadonov

Dadonov, 32, recorded 20 points (13 goals, seven assists) in 55 games last season. He has 222 points (104 goals, 118 assists) in 335 career games with the Senators and Florida Panthers, who selected him in the third round of the 2007 NHL Draft.

Holden, 34, had two assists for his lone points in 17 games last season. He has 143 points (45 goals, 98 assists) in 513 career games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Golden Knights.

As for Vegas and Jack Eichel, their limited cap space likely had them out of the running. Per THN’s Ryan Kennedy says he heard the Sabres ask from Vegas was Reilly Smith, Peyton Krebs, Nic Hague and a first-rounder. That may be a reason why Vegas today went out and acquired Dadonov from the Senators. They currently have just $212K in cap space which should take them out of it.
