Stunner: Washington Capitals and Zdeno Chara agree to a one year deal

Zdeno Chara is no longer a member of the Boston Bruins today. He and the Washington Capitals agreed to a one-year deal with an AAV of $795,000. It should also be noted that there are bonuses in the deal.

Washington Capitals sign Zdeno Chara

“We are extremely pleased to have Zdeno join the Capitals organization,” GM Brian MacLellan said upon signing Big Z. “We feel his experience and leadership will strengthen our blueline and our team.”

The 43 year-old surefire Hall of Famer notched 14 points in 68 games with the Boston Bruins last season. He joins a Caps blue line that features John Carlson, Dmitry Orlov, Justin Schultz, and Brendan Dillon so the pressure will not be on him as it was in Boston.

Chara says goodbye to Boston

“Recently, the Boston Bruins informed me that they plan to move forward with their many younger talented players and I respect their decision,” Chara began in an IG post. “Unfortunately, my time as the proud Captain of the Bruins has come to an end.”

In today’s daily NHL rumors post, we noted that the Bruins were moving on from Zdeno.

Chara concluded his statement by saying, “I want the people of Boston to know how proud I was to be a Bruin and how grateful I am for the support over the years.”

“Thank You, does not seem adequate to express my sincere gratitude. I will always be a Bruin. I will always love Boston.”
