Senators land another big fish as Claude Giroux signs 3-year deal

The Ottawa Senators incredible offseason continues as they’ve landed one of the top free agents in Claude Giroux. According to multiple reports, he has signed for three-years with an AAV at $6.5 million and a full no-move clause.
“When the idea was to come back home and play for the Sens, I didn’t look back after that,” Giroux said. “It’s a young group that’s very exciting. A lot of talent, guys that like to work hard and compete. I just like the character of the team and I think I’m going to fit right in with them.”

Giroux, who is from Hearst, Ontario, recorded 65 points (21 goals, 44 assists) in 75 games last season split between the Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers.
“I wouldn’t sign here if I didn’t think we had a chance to win the Cup,” Giroux said. “I’m not saying we’re going to win the Cup this year, but the plan is to build on it and have baby steps for that.”
The 34-year-old spent parts of 15 seasons in Philadelphia and had served as the captain of the Flyers since January 2013 prior to being traded to the Panthers in March.
Prior to the trade, Giroux joined Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Clarke as the only Flyers to play 1,000 games for the franchise.
Giroux has 923 points (294 goals, 629 assists) in 1,018 career games.
