Philadelphia Flyers add Derick Brassard with one-year contract

Forward Derick Brassard signed a one-year contract worth $825,000 with the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

Brassard will reunite with Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault when he joins his ninth NHL team. Vigneault also was his bench boss with the New York Rangers during the team’s run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014.

Brassard, 33, recorded 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 53 games last season with the Arizona Coyotes. He has 503 points (194 goals, 309 assists) in 905 career games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders and Coyotes.

Brassard was selected by the Blue Jackets with the sixth overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft.
