As NHL Free Agency kicks off a new report regarding Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks has surfaced indicating he will be staying put– for now.

Pierre LeBrun spoke with agent Pat Brisson noting that his clients, which also includes Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones, will wait for the dust to settle before deciding on their futures.

As soon as the Chicago Blackhawks traded away both Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach at the draft everyone started talking about Patrick Kane.

Multiple reports indicated that Kane and his agent would be speaking with Hawks management about his future after the draft. Apparently those talks have not produced a request for a trade.

This shouldn’t be a big surprise after his comments during the season.

“You can win and still rebuild. I think there’s teams that have accelerated that too,” Kane said as he praised the work the L.A. Kings have done recently by adding a player like Philip Danault with the youth in the lineup and making the playoffs.

“Same thing with the Rangers, right? They put out that memo a couple of years ago that they’re rebuilding, and all of a sudden they’re one of the best teams in the league a couple of years later,” Kane added. “Obviously, you bring a guy in like Panarin, that helps, and Shesterkin. He comes to the forefront. You need those young guys obviously to take next steps but I think it could be done quicker than maybe some people think.”

Kane, 33, has one year left on a deal that hits the cap at $10.5 million. He registered 92 points in 76 games last season and will return a haul of picks and prospects when he’s ready to waive his full no-move clause.

The New York Rangers are considered a top destination for him if this is an in-season trade.
