NHL trade rumors Senators, Canadiens, Rangers, and Penguins

Ready for your NHL trade rumors roundup for today? We makes some pitstops in Ottawa, Montreal and Pittsburgh to start.

NHL trade rumors Ottawa Senators

We start off with stopping a trade rumor that the Senators would consider trading their 1st round picks (3 and 5 overall) to the New York Rangers for the first pick overall, Alexis Lafreniere.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, Sent owner, Eugene Melnyk said in an email, “The idea of trading our 3rd and 5th picks for the No. 1 pick is nonsensical.” Truly that is a steep price to pay for Alexis Lafreniere, but one some teams would feel worth it.

Of course, that won’t stop the trade rumors from the Rangers side as one is brewing of a swap with the L.A. Kings for the #2 overall pick and a player. I doubt that goes anywhere too.

NHL trade rumors Montreal Canadiens

There has been a lot of talk coming out of Montreal again with regards to Max Domi. Elliotte Friedman in a recent podcast said that he can see Max on Pittsburgh next season. A lot of that has to do with how the Domi family has close ties with Mario Lemieux.

Domi has been bounced around the Habs lineup and been regulated to fourth line duties at times. At 25 years of age, the Canadiens won’t give him away, displeased with his play or not. Keep your eyes peeled as this rumor has a lot of legs behind it.

NHL trade rumors Florida Panthers

Not exactly a trade rumor but one with trade ramifications in the future. The Florida Panthers have sought and received permission from the Rangers to interview for their vacant GM position.

Friedman speculated in his last 31 Thoughts blog, that the Panthers could be honing in on Chris Drury. It also wouldn’t be the first time teams came knocking for Drury, but the question was would the Rangers let him go? Now we have an answer.

New York is building an incredible prospect pool and Drury had a lot responsibility in developing that pipeline. If the Panthers can’t land Drury, Friedman also mentions Scott Mellanby, Laurence Gilman, and Michael Futa as candidates.

There’s been a promise of big changes from Pens GM, Jim Rutherford. When it comes to moveable big pieces, Kris Letang is the name that seems the most obvious to move.

Rossi and Yohe continued, quoting a rival executive: “Letang’s market value is better, if you can believe it. … He’s still a top defenseman, and you’re probably going to keep him around if you get him, so [the Penguins] would get more for him, I’d think.”
