NHL Trade: Flames land Tyler Toffoli from the Canadiens
The Calgary Flames had rugged scoring-forward Tyler Toffoli in their sights and landed him today in a trade.
Per multiple reports the deal is as follows:
To Calgary: Tyler Toffoli
To Montreal: Tyler Pitlick, prospect Emil Heineman, a first and fifth round pick
Note: The first round pick is top 10 protected. Should the pick land in the top 10, Montreal gets Calgary’s 2023 first round selection and an additional fourth round pick.
Flames trade for Toffoli
The power forward has a good contract with an AAV of only $4.25M for another two seasons, but he doesn’t have any trade protection. This allows the Flames cap flexibility to move him after this year.
Toffoli, 29, has recorded 26 points in 37 games this season.
“I want to be part of the solution,” Toffoli said in January. “I want to be a guy who’s a leader, who’s looked up to.”
Now, Toffoli will play that role in Calgary as they look to make a playoff push.
