NHL Scores: Controversial goal costs Blue Jackets, Red Wings hand Panthers first regulation loss, and more
The Blue Jackets (5-5-3) were not very happy after falling 6-5 to the Hurricanes (7-2) on Super Bowl Sunday. Columbus certainly deserved at least a point in this contest, but an offside goal by Vincent Trocheck was allowed to stand.
NHL Scores: Controversial goal costs Blue Jackets at least a point
Tortorella immediately challenged the goal, but after a quick review the call on the ice stood and Columbus was assessed a penalty. This is where it gets weird, because the refs then explained it was a miscommunication with the video team. The goal shouldn’t have counted but instead of removing it off the board and adding extra time to the period, all they did was remove the remaining time on the penalty.

“I think that’s the biggest joke I’ve ever seen,” Patrik Laine said after seeing his two goal effort wasted. As for Torts – no comment.
The Red Wings (3-8-2) have been struggling this season, so color me a little shocked when they knocked off the Panthers (6-1-2) 4-1 in Florida. Marc Staal scored his first as a Red Wing and Thomas Greiss back-stopped the win with 36 saves.
In other action the Flyers (8-3-2) took out the Capitals (6-3-3) in a 7-4 barn burner. The Golden Knights (7-1-1) edged the Kings (3-6-2) 4-3 and the Blackhawks (5-4-4) outlasted the Stars (5-2-2) in a shootout 2-1.
NHL News: Statement on allowing Flyers – Capitals game to move forward
As a result of a Philadelphia Flyers Player entering the League’s COVID Protocol earlier today, a decision was made by the NHL’s and NHLPA’s medical experts to have all Flyers Players, Coaches and staff receive POC tests in advance of this afternoon’s game vs. the Washington Capitals. After all tests returned negative, the League’s, NHLPA’s and Clubs’ medical groups determined that it was appropriate to play the game.

The Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup last season, and Tom Brady (along with the Bucs D) added another title to that city yesterday.
