NHL Rumors: TSN’s latest trade list, plus Flyers scouting Avs for potential Giroux trade?

TSN has recently updated their Trade Bait List with Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun topping the board.

When Chychrun’s name first hit the rumor mill, there was plenty of debate if he was actually being shopped or teams called about his availability. At this point, it really doesn’t matter as he appears to be squarely on the trade block.

TSN’s Trade Bait List

TSN initially dropped their Trade Bait List on December 8th, with the Top 10 looking like this:

  1. Ben Chiarot, D (MTL)
  2. Anton Khudobin, G (DAL)
  3. Jake DeBrusk, F (BOS)
  4. Mark Giordano, D (SEA)
  5. Tomas Hertl, F (SJS)
  6. Nick Leddy, D (DET)
  7. Vitali Kravtsov, F (NYR)
  8. Kevin Fiala , F (MIN)
  9. Phil Kessel, F (ARI)
  10. Evander Kane, F (SJS)

Yesterday’s full list has a total of 25 names on it. Here’s the top 10 as it looks today:

  1. Jakob Chychrun, D (ARI)
  2. Ben Chiarot, D (MTL)
  3. Marc-Andre Fleury, G (CHI)
  4. Claude Giroux, C (PHI)
  5. John Klingberg, D (DAL)
  6. Tomas Hertl, F (SJS)
  7. Mark Giordano, D (SEA)
  8. Max Domi, F (CBJ)
  9. J.T. Miller, F (VAN)
  10. Arizona Cap Space

Aside from three names since its initial debut in December (Chiarot, Hertl, Giordano), there has been a lot of change. Only Evander Kane is on a new team but that came by the way of contract termination leaving the Oilers free to sign him as a UFA.

The Daily Goal Horn’s running Trade Bait Tracker will be updated soon.

According to Colorado Hockey Now’s Adrian Dater, the Philadelphia Flyers have been heavily scouting the Avalanche and their AHL farm team.

This is fueling speculation of a rumored deal between the Avs and the Flyers for pending UFA Claude Giroux.

“What’s one team in every trade rumor? Colorado,” Friedman said on a recent podcast. “Colorado could use a right-handed shot. The biggest challenge I have with that is can you make the math work. If Claude Giroux wants to chase a Stanley Cup, that the team you go to.”

Giroux, 34, is in the final year of a contract that comes with a $8.275M cap hit. He has 36 points in 43 games. The expectation is that the Flyers would retain 50% of the cap hit to make the trade work and for a sweeter package.

“Claude and I will be spending time together within the next few weeks exploring his best options while having discussions with Chuck,” agent Pat Brisson told Pierre LeBrun.

The expectation is that Giroux will be traded by the NHL Trade Deadline on March 21.
