NHL Rumors: Teams waiting on heat to die down before trading for Rangers DeAngelo, Derek Stepan has not requested a trade and more
It’s been almost two weeks since Tony DeAngelo was placed on waivers and cleared. We also went from being traded within days to dead silence this week. So where does it all stand for the defenseman this morning.
NHL Rumors: Teams waiting for heat to die down on DeAngelo
Bob McKenzie provided an update on the Tony DeAngelo situation on NBCSN last night. When asked if a trade was close McKenzie quickly replied, “the short answer is no.”
According to hockey’s premier insider, “the sense I get is that the slow play here is the best play here for some of teams interested in DeAngelo.” That way the heat any team would face in acquiring the 25 year-old defenseman will die down.
He followed that up with noting there are many teams continuing to have conversations not only with the Rangers, but DeAngelo’s agent Pat Brisson. The four team known to have checked in so far are the Red Wings, Ducks, Flames, and Kings.
NHL Rumors: Derek Stepan available has not asked for a trade

“No, he hasn’t indicated anything along that line to us,” Senators GM Pierre Dorion said via The Athletic on if Derek Stepan asked for a trade. “I think it’s only human that when you only see your newborn for a day or two, it can be difficult on any type of human being. At the same time he’s a total pro and he’s doing his best.”
However, it is clear from other reports that Stepan is available and the Senators are willing to find him a place closer to his family in Arizona.
