NHL Rumors Roundup: Pierre McGuire running the Yotes, Caps coach search, and Taylor Hall in Montreal
NHL Rumors: Pierre McGuire back in the NHL as an executive? Yes, it could happen and with the Arizona Coyotes based on some recent reports. “An interesting name surfaced this week, and that’s Pierre McGuire,” Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston said on a recent broadcast with regard to the Yotes GM search.
Another interesting name to come up for the job is former goaltender, Sean Burke. He played 5 years in the desert and knows the organization and city well. Burke also comes with some recent experience as Hockey Canada’s GM from 2016-19.
NHL rumors: Fiery Mike Babcock up for Capitals coaching job
The Capitals are looking for a win-now coach and it appears you can add former Wings and Leafs bench boss, Mike Babcock to the mix. That makes three heavy veteran hitters along with Peter Laviolette and Gerard Gallant.
“Last week the reports got out that the Washington Capitals had permission to interview Peter Laviolette for their vacant head coaching job, this week it’s believed that they interviewed Toronto’s former head coach Mike Babcock,” Friedman said Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada‘s ‘Headlines’ segment. “And he is a legitimate candidate for the position.”

NHL rumors: Taylor Hall signing with the Canadiens?
The prize of free agent frenzy, especially once Alex Pietrangelo re-ups with the Blues, is Taylor Hall. Recently, the Coyotes made a “hail mary” pitch to keep him and it doesn’t sound like they persuaded Hall from testing the market.

Now the NHL rumor mill has the Montreal Canadiens in the market to beef up their flanks with Taylor Hall. I spoke with Lyle Richardson on a recent podcast regarding this topic and he reiterated the same belief that Darren Dreger has on the matter.
So where will the former Hart Trophy winner land? Montreal is as good a place as any, and they have the cap space to make it happen.
