NHL Rumors: Ryan Getzlaf’s future, Jack Eichel trade talk heats up, Sabres and Taylor Hall extension
It sounds like the NHL Rumors Mill will need to pump the brakes on a few names. On the other hand, the wheel may break with the latest chatter involving Buffalo Sabres superstar Jack Eichel.
NHL Rumors: Ryan Getzlaf will only be traded if he wants
On the latest edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Frank Seravalli provided a brief update on the status of Anaheim Ducks center, Ryan Getzlaf.
“Here’s where things stand with the Ducks and Getzlaf,” he began. “He means so much to the franchise – their plan at this point is not to approach him with a potential trade.”
Seravalli notes that a trade will only happen if Getzlaf decides he wants to chase a Cup and asks to be moved. Remember, he owns a No Move Clause and controls his fate.
NHL Rumors: Sabres and Hall talking extension
Yesterday, we noted that Taylor Hall went public to discuss his struggles in Buffalo. The thought process being that he may opt for a better team in free agency since he only signed a one year deal. Well that may not be the case.

“Right now there’s mutual interest between Taylor Hall and the Buffalo Sabres to talk extension when the time is right,” Pierre LeBrun revealed. “Darren Ferris, the agent for Taylor Hall is notorious for bringing his clients to free agency – but in this case he also has interest in listening to the Sabres.”
LeBrun noted that the time to talk extension begins on March 12th. All I will say is this, I heard this same story about Hall with the Arizona Coyotes and we all saw how that turned out.
NHL Rumors: Friedman sets off firestorm with Jack Eichel and New York Rangers trade talk
Another one of Hockey’s Top Insiders, Elliotte Friedman made an appearance on WGR550 Radio causing a stir. When asked if he could see Jack Eichel traded, he answered with a prompt and affirmative “Yes!”

“I don’t think he ever asked for a trade, but [Eichel] was restless and teams knew it,” Friedman explained. The natural follow up was what would the package look like and if it would be too big for teams? “Maybe Buffalo would look at it that way – we need a billion assets, the things is – what’s the market?”
“The team I would look at first is the Rangers,” Friedman said before the host added the L.A. Kings into the mix. “I think the Rangers could make the deal. I think both those teams could make deals with Buffalo that would make you say maybe we didn’t get the best player in the deal, but you are getting more than one thing you’re excited about.”
Here’s more on the Rangers and a potential blockbuster this summer.
