NHL Rumors: Oilers extending Nugent-Hopkins, Rangers negotiating, and draft dealings
NHL rumors keep brewing folks! The draft is less than a week away and there’s tons of deals in play. From the Senators open to trading their 5th overall pick, to now the Montreal Canadiens looking to trade the 16th pick.
NHL Rumors – Montreal Canadiens open to trading pick 16
On the latest edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Pierre Lebrun confirmed news that the Canadiens are willing to trade pick 16. Of course, they want a top six forward in return and I, like Lebrun don’t see any takers for that.
NHL Rumors – Oilers and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
I spoke with Lyle Richardson of Spector’s Hockey on a podcast recently about Nugent-Hopkins possibly as trade bait. He told me the Oilers love “the Nuge” and want to keep him.
Today, Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Oilers and Nugent-Hopkins are working on a longterm deal. Sounds like this could get worked out soon. Ryan will be a UFA next summer.
NHL Rumors – Rangers talking with RFAs

The Rangers and RFA, Brendan Lemieux are close to a deal sources say. Which source you ask? How about Brendan Lemieux himself on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast.
On another note, there is a lot of speculation about Henrik Lundqvist’s future. Here’s what I know, he is as likely to retire as he is to sign with a team on October 9th.
NHL Rumors – Blue Jackets open to trading a goalie
Pierre Lebrun also noted tonight that the Jackets are open to trading either one of their goalies for a top two center. Good Luck in this flooded goalie market.
