NHL Rumors: Oilers about to get busy, Bobby Ryan wants the Flyers, Mikhail Sergachev on the move, and more

Another day of wine, roses, and NHL rumors for hockey fans at this time of year. There’s plenty circulating out there which is what we expect. Will it be as wild as some think are will it be a dud? We will find out soon enough.

NHL Rumors – Oilers looking at Tyson Barrie

News is coming out of Edmonton that Oscar Klefbom one of their better point getters on defense may be out long term. The rumor mill now has the Oilers tied to UFA defenseman Tyson Barrie.

Although Barrie struggles defensively, he would be a relatively nice add to a high octane club. Listen, I believe in the best defense is a good offense.

NHL Rumors – Oilers disgruntled first round pick nearing deal

Looks like Jesse Puljujarvi has come to his senses. Seeing that there really was no market for him, and living in the COVID-19 cap era, he may be signing with Edmonton.

NHL Rumors – Bobby Ryan wants the Flyers

Sounds like Bobby Ryan won’t be without a hockey team for too long. Yesterday we noted that he was being sought after by the Sharks and many other teams. Now Ryan is putting the word out he wants to play with the Flyers.

“Really, the opportunity has never presented itself, I’m not sure if it will this time around, but if the Flyers were to make an offer or extend a camp invite, they’d move high on my list because of all the connections,” the NJ native said. “For me, it’s one step at a time, just wait to see who makes an offer and go from there.”

NHL Rumors – Lightning could move Sergachev?

In Elliotte Friedman’s latest 31 Thoughts, he dives into Tampa difficult cap situation and desire to remain competitive. It sounds like, there could be a possibility where Sergachev is moved.

It sounds like GM Julien Brisebois has done a lot of the internal legwork already, knowing which players are (or are not) willing to waive no-move or no-trade protection. (Several have indicated they prefer not to.) The Lightning are not satisfied with one win — they want to maintain themselves for a shot at more. Expect Brisebois to think unconventionally. I think teams will ask if Sergachev wants a bigger role. He’s on the left side with Hedman and McDonagh.
