NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs asked about Linus Ullmark; Sam Bennet a Capitals target; and Devils close to trading Kyle Palmieri

The Maple Leafs are very happy with Jack Campbell’s play as he’s done all they could’ve hoped for by going undefeated in eight games (8-0-0). That coupled with the news Frederik Andersen is expected back soon had me remove any link to a goaltender in our NHL Trade Bait Tracker.

NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs called on Linus Ullmark

In a recent radio spot on WGR 550, Elliotte Friedman said that the Maple Leafs spoke with Buffalo about goalie Linus Ullmark. He called it simple due diligence but at the same time it’s interesting that they inquired. The Sabres did not indicate Ullmark was available specifically, although they are clearly open for business.

My question is simple; what if this is more of an offseason trade? Remember that Andersen is an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.

NHL Rumors: Capitals looking to add; could Sam Bennett be a fit?

The Capitals are an obvious buyer at the NHL Trade Deadline. They’ve currently been rumored to be looking for some goalie depth, but wouldn’t it be interesting if they also look towards the future and bring in a player like Sam Bennett.

Tarik El-Bashir of the Athletic took a look at some forward options for the Caps and came up with some interesting names. He believes Washington would target players like Luke Glendening, Riley Nash, Mikael Granlund, and Erik Haula. He also mentioned that since Sam Bennett is available it could be a more interesting option for GM Brian MacLellan.

If MacLellan goes down that road, it’ll come down to cost vs. reward, as it always does. And, of course, fit, both on the ice and in the room. The Caps seem to have good chemistry; integrating a new piece three-quarters of the way into the season isn’t always seamless.

NHL Rumors: Kyle Palmieri expected to be traded

It appears that negotiations between the Devils and Palmieri are not going well. If the two sides can’t hammer out a deal in the next few days he’s expected to be moved. Keep your eyes on the Bruins and Islanders as the top potential landing spots.
