NHL Rumors: Jonathan Quick on Kraken radar, Devils enter Mike Hoffman sweeps, and more

The expansion draft will take place next offseason. Very similar to the Vegas Golden Knights who built their team around Marc-Andre Fleury, the Seattle Kraken are expected to target a top goalie.

NHL Rumors: Jonathan Quick the Seattle Kraken?

Ron Francis will have his pick of players for sure, but one goaltender that could be at the top of his list is Jonathan Quick. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the L.A. Kings would give Seattle instant credibility, much like Fleury did with the Knights.

The Kings likely see 26 year-old goaltender Cal Peterson as the next number one. Also, they have two very promising prospects in Lukas Parik and Jacob Ingham that could take the role soon. All this adds up to Quick being exposed.

Quick will be 35 years-old if selected with two years left on a deal that comes with a reasonable $5.8 million cap hit. Furthermore, on a struggling Kings team he posted a 2.79 GAA with a .904 SV% last season.

While they may not be as appealing due to being in a rebuild mode, they have $17 million in cap space and may be the only team willing to give a multi-year deal. This could be the best bet for the 31 year-old goal scorer.

Oilers unlikely to make trades before season begins

The Edmonton Oilers are at the cap ceiling and need some wiggle room. According to the Edmonton Journal’s Kurt Leavins he does not see a move in the imminent future.

What I am hearing is that while something does need to give on the Oilers roster before a return to play, I don’t expect a deal happens before the middle of January. That is likely (hopefully?) when training camp may start. Store that away for n
