NHL Rumors: Jets and Cirelli, Lundqvist buyout official, and Canucks in on Ekman-Larsson

Today’s NHL rumors continues to buzz as we focus on the situation with the Cup champs and their cap issues. Rangers made Lundqvist buyout official earlier today as well.

NHL Rumors – Winnipeg Jets looking at Anthony Cirelli

We all know the Lightning are working the phones feverishly to unload salary. The champs want to keep both their key RFA’s in Anthony Cirelli and Mikhail Sergachev.

Over in Winnipeg there is a suggestion that the Jets should attempt a trade for Cirelli if the Lightning are still strapped for cash. Relayed by our friends at Spector’s Hockey, the belief is that picks and prospects should get it done. If that fails then attempt an offer sheet between $4.2 – $6.3 million.

Interesting, but I believe Tampa would match that.

NHL Rumors – Lights go out on Broadway for Henrik Lundqvist

The New York Rangers made it official today with the buyout of Henrik Lundqvist. “His tireless work ethic, passion for the game, and love of the Rangers and New York City enabled him to become one of the greatest goaltenders in hockey and one of the best players in the history of our franchise,” John Davidson said. “We all wish Henrik and his family the best going forward.”

Pierre Lebrun briefly spoke with Hank’s agent about if he is looking for another team. Don Meehan said that it is “to be determined.”

NHL Rumors – Canucks asked about OEL

Yesterday we noted that the Oilers talked to Arizona about OEL and now it appears so have the Canucks. Per Friedman:

Not sure it is even possible, but I think Arizona and Vancouver had an Oliver Ekman-Larsson conversation.
