NHL Rumors: Jakob Chychrun awaits trade, and Flyers could be in trade market soon
Today’s NHL Rumors begins with some significant news out of Arizona Coyotes camp regarding defenseman Jakob Chychrun.
“The team approached me a couple of times, one before the [2021-22 season], one early in the season and we just had discussions about where I was mentally and where the team was at,” Chychrun said via NHL.com.
“[I] decided to take them up on that offer and try to move on to a better situation [because of] my desire to to win in this league,” he added. “Careers are so short, the time flies by, and I’m in my seventh year in the NHL. It’s just crazy.”
NHL Rumors: Jakob Chychrun awaiting a trade

When Jakob Chychrun was injured during the second period of of 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins prior to the trade deadline last March, he saw his chance of escaping the desert washed away.
Chychrun, 24, notched 7 goals and 21 points in 47 games this past season. Coming into 2022-23, he has a great contract with 3 years left at $4.6 million AAV. That’s incredible value for a top 4 defenseman in a flat cap system.
“I don’t want these years to keep going by and be 10, 12 years in and not had a real good chance at not only the playoffs, but winning the Stanley Cup,” Chychrun admitted. “That’s really my mentality and where I’m at and I think the team understands that, to get moved to a situation with a chance to win and a team that’s fighting for the Stanley Cup.”
During the offseason, Chychrun’s name was closely attached to the Columbus Blues Jackets before they signed Johnny Gaudreau via free agency and extended Patrik Laine.
The Ottawa Senators still remain a likely landing spot, but the Coyotes ask was just too much for them to pull the trigger on a deal this summer.
While the Senators have held talks with Arizona Coyotes about defenceman Jakub Chychrun, Dorion has balked at the asking price… The belief is the Coyotes want two first-round picks and a high-end prospect for Chychrun. He could help the club’s back end but Dorion has to determine at what cost? The Coyotes have stuck to their asking price but that doesn’t mean that Dorion has to pay it.

Regardless, Chychrun is going into the season with a trade request still open and public.
NHL Rumors: Flyers injuries mount

The Philadelphia Flyers are already coming out of the gate hobbling with forward Sean Couturier likely to miss some or all of the season due to back issues. That was made worse with confirmation that defenseman Ryan Ellis is likely to be out for the year.
This is going to put the Flyers immediately in the market for a defenseman at the very least. Keep an eye on them looking to acquire Ethan Bear from the Carolina Hurricanes.
