NHL Rumors: Jack Eichel trade speculation continues, Canadiens should target Eric Staal, and Steve Yzerman wants draft moved
Jack Eichel.
Yes that name has been discussed a lot and I’m telling you now it will keep doing so. Every hockey publication has brought him up and top analysts don’t see him having much of a future in Buffalo.
Until he or his agents speak out about it, they’ll just keep going.
NHL Rumors: Jack Eichel trade talk only growing
DGH has noted Elliotte Friedman’s thoughts that the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings would have the cap space and the assets to get a deal done. Recently, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period added two more teams to the mix.
For whatever the reason, this team can’t get it together and trading Eichel will only set them back that much more. But having a disgruntled captain is never a good thing. How much longer can the Sabres sell their plan before Eichel tells them to **** off? Maybe we find that out this off-season, and if we do, expect the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks to be among the teams in pursuit.

I’ve written extensively about the Rangers desire’s this past offseason to trade for Eichel, and they would be a frontrunner to land him. However, Larry Brooks of the NY POST believes the trade must include first overall selection Alexis Lafreniere.
I’m with Friedman’s analysis that the market will dictate the package. And if L.A. isn’t giving up Quinton Byfield, or Anaheim including Trevor Zegras you can forget Lafreniere or even Kaapo Kakko for that matter.
Steve Yzerman wants the draft pushed back
The Detroit Red Wings who are steamrolling themselves to a lottery pick again would like the draft pushed back. “I would hope they push it back and give us a chance to watch these kids,” Steve Yzerman said.
I am in full agreement. Scouting kids on video just isn’t optimal.
NHL Rumors: Canadiens should target Eric Staal
This morning we continued our NHL Trade Target series with the East Division. Our candidate from the Sabres – none other than Eric Staal.
TVA Sports Jean-Charles Lajoie believes that Staal would be a great fit and center depth insurance for the Canadiens this post season.
“He scored 42 goals just three years ago in Minnesota,” said Lajoie. He wastes the last years of his career with a club that is not going anywhere except into the wall. Olympic champion in 2010, Stanley Cup champion in 2006. He has always excelled against the Canadiens like his former teammate Erik Cole and, most recently, Josh Anderson. ”
