NHL Rumors: J.T. Miller’s next contract, and Blackhawks GM on Maple Leafs trade leaks
One of the hottest names being bandied about in trade talks over the course of the season was Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller.
Weeks prior to the NHL Trade Deadline on March 21, Miller addressed all the buzz surrounding him.
“They’re all rumors to begin with,” Miller said. “I don’t think I’m getting traded. I never thought I was getting traded. Everybody is speculating, so I never even looked into that (Vancouver) were trying to trade me to begin with.”
NHL Rumors: J.T. Miller’s next contract
The Canucks 29 year-old leading scorer has 80 points in 66 games this season and he will be a topic of conversation again this summer.
Miller currently has one more year on a deal that comes with a bargain AAV of $5.25 Million. However, there’s speculation that his next deal will be a huge raise to $8.5 Million per Elliotte Friedman.
Will the Canucks be willing to go that high? If they do it may come at the cost of trading Bo Horvat or Brock Boeser. Regardless, the bigger question is if Vancouver will also be willing to go the max 7 or 8 years on a player that will turn 30 next March.
Chicago GM addresses trade talk leaks with Toronto

The most discussed miss at the NHL Trade Deadline was the Toronto Maple Leafs balking at the asking price to acquire Marc-Andre Fleury and Brandon Hagel from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Of course, the real story was the leak out of Chicago. That had Leafs GM Kyle Dubas told Kevin Weekes that he was very upset that the Blackhawks leaked a private conversation.
Yesterday, on the first day of GM meetings the topic of leaks was put on the table and Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson wanted to clear the air.
“It was a pretty public event and I just wanted to kind of put it out there that I take it as seriously as everyone else,’’ Davidson told The Athletic after Day 1 of the GMs meeting.
“The event with Kyle was addressed privately, we’re good and we’re going to move forward with a good relationship.’’
