NHL Rumors: Islanders close to signing Mat Barzal, Zdeno Chara in no rush, and more
Zdeno Chara is a legend in the game of hockey. At 43 years-old he is still a marvel thanks to his size and skill. While he is not the same Chara that built the legendary status while commanding the Boston Bruins blue-line, he’s still darn good.
NHL Rumors: Zdeno Chara in no rush to sign a deal
In a report featured in Boston Hockey Now, Chara’s agent Matt Keator explained the hold up. With the current fluid state of the NHL season, including a moving start date, there’s no reason for Chara to make a decision.
Keator, like some other NHL executives are not optimistic about a January 1 start date. “January 1 doesn’t seem too realistic right now does it?” he told BHN. It is still expected the NHL will play and Chara will have all the info he needs for next season.

The question will then shift to where he will play. Will it be a return to Boston or could the Bruins captain find himself in another uniform? More to come soon.

Islanders and Mat Barzal close?
The New York Islanders could get real busy soon. They need to clear some cap space and get Mathew Barzal signed. There are some rumblings in NY rumor circles that something could go down soon. Just remember Lou Lamoriello doesn’t like leakers.
Depending on what happens, the Isles remain interested in trying to re-sign both Matt Martin and Andy Greene.
Edmonton Oilers looking for a defenseman
Oscar Klefbom’s injury hurts the Edmonton Oilers. However, they could use his LTIR to go out and sign another defenseman. Rumor has it the Oilers are seeking a left handed rearguard to take his spot.
Unfortunately the pickings are slim on the UFA market for left-handed defenseman. They may try the trade route and see if something makes sense that way first.
Hey…how would Chara look on the Oilers? Just a thought.
