NHL Rumors: Flames heat things up as they join the Knights in Jack Eichel trade talks

There appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Jack Eichel. As things continue to pick up steam on the trade front, that light could be the Calgary Flames.

According to Kevin Weekes, the top two destinations for Eichel are the Flames and Golden Knights. He states that the situation is fluid, but in all honesty it’s been that way since he made his desire to leave officially public.

Are we truly close to an end? Many hockey fans not even involved in the mix are hoping so.

The Jack Eichel saga has worn thin and needs to end

As a hockey writer, I have personally heard enough from fans to “please stop talking about it” or “we don’t want him!” A resolution to this mess is long overdue.

In the last 24 hours, Eichel trade talk went from a rumbling to a roar. Prior to Weekes report, Frank Seravalli noted that Vegas and Buffalo were “well down the track in discussions of what the framework of a trade would look like.”

Darren Dreger said that everything was really quiet this week but now things have “reheated.”

Earlier today, the Golden Knights claimed Michael Amaido off waivers from the Maple Leafs. That was a move that certainly raised some eyebrows.

Additionally, the Anaheim Ducks removed Jakob Silfverberg from the roster. That sparked speculation that they could be close to a deal. The Daily Goal Horn learned that the individual teams don’t add/remove players from the websites, that’s all done by NHL Central Registry. Silfverberg has since been put back.

Pretty crazy stuff isn’t it?

Flames did due diligence on Eichel in the summer

On a recent appearance on The Jeff Marek Show, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Calgary Flames tried hard to acquire Eichel in the offseason. He also added that Eichel never said he wouldn’t want to play there.

The question everyone seems to have is what could the Flames give up that meets what the Sabres want. Despite all the renewed trade talk, and the possibility the Sabres would be open to a deal with conditions, they still want futures.

Do the Flames have what it takes to get it done? Would they be willing to include Connor Zary in a deal, and is Buffalo interested in him? That obviously won’t be enough, but it would have to be a starting point. Then Calgary has to clear cap space to fit Eichel in eventually, which spells the end of Johnny Gaudreau as a Flame and likely Sean Monahan.

Still an Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk connection probably sounds really good to Flames’ fans.

Stay tuned fans…we may have an answer soon. I stress the word MAY.
