NHL Rumors: Filip Forsberg contract update, and are the Avs open to trading Samuel Girard?
The Nashville Predators and Filip Forsberg are in the final year of a six-year contract agreed to in 2016-17. That deal was for $6M AAV against the cap and his next one is expected to be higher.
Forsberg, 27, scored 32 points in 39 games last season. This season, he has 7 points in 9 games and is currently week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

NHL Rumors: Predators and Forsberg to start negotiations
The Predators forward is not too worried about getting a deal done.
“To be honest, I have barely thought about it,” Forsberg said prior to the season via TFP.
According to a new report from Pierre LeBrun, he states the two sides will start negotiations soon.
There really haven’t been any contract discussions yet between the Nashville Predators and Filip Forsberg’s camp, led by agent J.P. Barry, but word is both sides recently agreed they should get the ball rolling soon.

The two sides have time, but come the NHL Trade Deadline the rumors will start to swirl. LeBrun believes that a max term deal for 8 years is a given if he stays in Nashville. As for salary, he thinks it could be $8M plus.
Are the Avs open to trading Sam Girard?

The Colorado Avalanche are in some unfamiliar territory early in the new season.
Colorado is just at the .500 mark with a 5-5-1 record. That could explain why the Avs were sniffing around Buffalo to try and acquire Jack Eichel. GM Joe Sakic is said to be in the market for a legit top six forward to ease the pressure off his top line.
Mike Chambers of The Denver Post was recently on The Jeff Marek Show and said he believed that Girard was part of the offer for Eichel.
“I believe that Sam Girard was the big piece in the efforts to get Jack Eichel here,” Chambers said. “I still think that Girard is going to get traded… the Avs want a forward for him and they want to lose his $5M cap hit.”
Girard, 23, is a left shot defenseman drafted in the 2nd round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He has recorded 5 assists in 9 games with the Avs this season. For his career, he has 121 points in 282 regular season games and 17 points in 37 playoff contests.
He is currently in the second year of a seven-year deal signed in 2020-21. A young, cost controlled defenseman should fetch a good forward on the market.
