NHL Rumors: ESPN Insider says Eichel deal “at the 1 yard line”; Maple Leafs and Campbell discussing new deal

ESPN Insider Emily Kaplan provided an update on the Jack Eichel trade situation which she claims is “at the 1 yard line.”

According to her report, she states that it is down to the Calgary Flames and Vegas Golden Knights. This is backing her ESPN colleague Kevin Weekes’ own information that started this latest round of trade buzz on Friday.

NHL Rumors: Jack Eichel deal close

“There was a lot of work done over the weekend and today I was told a trade is at the 1 yard line.” Emily said on ESPN. “There’s still some final details they’ve got to figure out. I’m told that Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams is working extremely hard at this to get a deal done.”

The Sabres have remained steadfast in their stance that they will not retain salary in any Eichel trade. Some of the hold up could very well be involving a third team to help with retaining some of Jack’s $10M AAV for the remainder of his deal (4 more years).

Multiple reports also indicate that the Sabres still want futures but have expanded that to also include a young player under contract. Ergo why defenseman Shea Theodore’s name is in the mix if the trade is with Vegas along with prospect Peyton Krebs.

For the Flames, names like Elias Lindholm and Sean Monahan make sense, as does prospect Connor Zary.

Eichel, 24, has 355 points in 375 career NHL games and has yet to play a single postseason contest in 6 seasons.

Jack Campbell working on new deal with Maple Leafs

Sportsnet Insider, Nick Kypreos is reporting that the Toronto Maple Leafs and goalie Jack Campbell are working on an extension.

“There’s nothing more I’d love than to stay here,” the 29 year-old netminder said. Since joining the Leafs he is 24-7-4 with a .922 SV% and a 2.20 GAA.
