NHL Rumors: David Savard tops TSN Trade Bait Board; Islanders top team in on Taylor Hall; and Flyers looking for a goalie

Frank Seravalli has provided his latest update to TSN Trade Bait Board and has moved Blue Jackets defenseman David Savard to number one. He supplants Mattias Ekholm who drops down to 6th as the Predators have surged into a playoff spot.

NHL Rumors: David Savard moves up to #1 on TSN Trade Board

The top 5 now looks like:

  1. David Savard (CBJ)
  2. Kyle Palmieri (NJ)
  3. Taylor Hall (BUF)
  4. Nick Foligno (CBJ)
  5. Jonathan Bernier (DET)

Columbus Blue Jackets stalwart defenceman David Savard has climbed into the top spot, knocking Nashville Predators blueliner Mattias Ekholm off his post for the first time this season as the Preds have vaulted into the final playoff spot in the Central Division.

That’s caused Ekholm and Predators pending free agent winger Mikael Granlund to tumble out of the top five. It’s not accurate to say Predators GM David Poile has pulled his players off the market, but it is fair to say he is willing to give his team every opportunity until the April 12 deadline to show itself playoff worthy.

Two names that were very high on the list when it initially came out have dropped significantly Sam Bennent is now 26 (was 9) and Tony DeAngelo who debuted at 3 continues to be at the bottom of the list. Seravalli just expanded from 25 to 30 and that’s where he sits.

Taylor Hall remains the top trade target as the April 12 NHL Trade Deadline approaches. On the latest TSN Insider Trading, Darren Dreger revealed that Hall’s agent and Kevyn Adams spoke on Monday. As you can imagine, the Sabres GM is getting a lot of inquiries.

Per Hall’s agent Darren Ferris via Dreger there are several teams that have interest in a trade and sign. The biggest issue for the Sabres is what the return will look like. There’s been a lot of pushback on Buffalo’s demands of getting back a first round pick and a top prospect. However, the close the deal is made to the deadline the lesser the cap hit and Dreger believes that could help in getting what Adams in looking for.

Last night on NBC’s coverage Dreger provided an additional update on Hall. “There’s lots of speculation that Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders may take a swing,” he revealed. “I get the sense this is going to come down to around April 12th – so maybe the 9th or 10th of April.”

NHL Rumors: Carter Hart scratched; Flyers said to be looking at goalies

The Flyers have been dreadful defensively allowing 75 goals against in the month of March – the worst total in 27 years per TSN Stats. Alain Vigneault called out his goaltender, Carter Hart recently and has scratched him for two games.

According to several insiders the Flyers are sniffing around the goalie market. One name that’s now been attached is Jonathan Bernier in Detroit. This is getting interesting.
