NHL Rumors: Corey Perry signs with Canadiens, Derick Brassard has options, and Patrik Laine update

The activity continues in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens signing Corey Perry to a one year deal with an AAV of $750,000. This is their second low-cost signing with Michael Frolik being the other.

NHL Rumors: Perry signs with Canadiens

Marc Bergevin said he wasn’t done and he continues to add to the roster. The signing of Corey Perry adds experience and grit to a Canadiens lineup that is much improved from last season.

The 35 year-old power forward scored 21 points in 57 games with the Dallas Stars last season. He will push for a spot on the team’s third or fourth line in camp. Worst case scenario the Habs will add him to the taxi squad.

Currently, Montreal is over the cap and have until January 12th to get under. That can be accomplished by moving players to the taxi squad and not going with a full 23 man roster to start.

NHL Rumors: UFA Derick Brassard has options

The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta is reporting that center Derick Brassard has interest and options. While the Islanders would like to bring him back, they still haven’t signed RFA Mathew Barzal. Talks between Barzal and the Isles continue but progress hasn’t.
