NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames changes, J.T. Miller wants to stay, and Joel Quenneville going to Seattle?

NHL Rumors and the Calgary Flames will walk hand and hand this offseason. There’s rumblings of some big moves that could include trading both Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. The question is, will GM Brad Treliving be the GM to make those changes?

NHL Rumors Calgary Flames changes

There seems to be a plenty of issues with the Calgary Flames these days. GM Brad Treliving’s season end assessment didn’t line up to the way Frank Seravalli saw it. In his latest podcast he provided the following points.

I do think that there’s a management change coming. And I say that with all due respect to Brad Treliving. There’s been a long run there. He’s had this team for awhile. They’ve had the same core. They resisted making changes to that core last off-season and in fact in some ways doubled down with all the additions that they made, with Tanev, with Markstrom, and they didn’t pan out this year. And his postmortem press conference, it was a lot of this is a good team that had a bad year and this is a team that’s consistently inconsistent. I don’t know about that.

One recently let go GM that could fit the bill is Jeff Gorton. He was able to transform the Rangers in just a few seasons since the openly said they would be rebuilding. If the Flames make a change I’d expect they’d call him.

As far as trades, Johnny Gaudreau seems to be at the top of the list. He recently expressed a desire to stay in Calgary but there’s still way too much chatter regarding the Flyers to ignore. I feel that Johnny Hockey will definitely be moved this summer.

J.T. Miller wants to stay with the Canucks

Elliotte Friedman went straight to J.T. Miller to find out if he wants a change of scenery. “No, he does not want to be traded,” Friedman said on Sportsnet’s Saturday Headlines. “He wants to be a Vancouver Canuck. He has no intention of leaving. We have a good team here and he wants to be a part of it.”

In closing, Friedman said we can put that storyline to bed.

Joel Quenneville wants to coach the Seattle Kraken?

Unbeknownst to me, there’s been some chatter in the NHL Rumor mill that Joel Quenneville is looking to become the first coach of the Seattle Kraken.

Apparently extremely late to the party on this, but there is an undercurrent suggesting Joel Quenneville has his sights set on moving to Seattle to become the coach of the Kraken once his season is over with Florida, which might explain why Seattle general manager Ron Francis has moved so slowly on this hiring.

This is really the first I am hearing of it, but Quenneville signed a 5 year deal back in 2019. So for this to take place he’d have to work with Florida to part ways.
