NHL Rumors: Rask NTC, King’s landing, Laine in Philly, Tyler Johnson on the move, and more

Expect several NHL rumors updates today with the draft scheduled for tomorrow. We will start with some of the latest news in Boston as it has been learned that Rask’s no trade protection expires soon.

NHL Rumors – Boston Bruins can trade Rask

Over the weekend it was learned that Tuukka Rask’s no trade clause expires on October 9th, Free Agent Frenzy day.

This morning, Bruins GM Don Sweeney said that Rask is still an important part of the team. So we will see if Sweeney means it this Friday.

Henrik Lundqvist tweeted a message last night that got everyone talking. It read, “I still love to compete, I still love the game and want to WIN!” I’ve already wrote that talks of playing for the Washington Capitals is heating up, but here’s my list.

  1. Capitals
  2. Avalanche
  3. Hurricanes
  4. Sharks (dark horse)

NHL Rumors – Flyers after Laine

According to the Ottawa Sun, the Philadelphia Flyers are making a big push to acquire Patrik Laine and his offense.

An interesting team to watch on the Patrik Laine front may be the Philadelphia Flyers and the talk is they’re making an aggressive push. They have the ability to make the deal if they can find the right fit with the Jets. A league executive speculated Sunday the Flyers would probably want to see if there’s a fit in Winnipeg for defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere. He has three years left with a cap hit of $4.5 million per season, but the Jets could also look to get a second-line centre in return. The Jackets and Montreal Canadiens are both believed to have made pitches for Laine, 22, who has 138 goals and 247 points in 305 games.

NHL Rumors – Lightning working with Johnson on a move

The Tampa Bay Lightning are in dire need of cap space and are working with forward Tyler Johnson on a move. He has a full no-trade clause but it is never a good feeling to be unwanted. The 30 year-old forward has three years left at $5 million AAV. Look at teams in dire need of a center seeking to make a play. Columbus and Winnipeg come to mind, but will he go to either?

NHL Rumors – Other news and notes

Three teams everyone should keep an eye out on the draft tomorrow are the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, and Calgary Flames. All seem fired up to wheel and deal.
