NHL Rumors: Blues not in on Taylor Hall; Panthers looking for Aaron Ekblad replacement; Darryl Sutter and Johnny Gaudreau at odds is a trade next?

On a recent Saturday Headlines, Elliotte Friedman noted that the Buffalo Sabres are fielding plenty of calls on Taylor Hall. “There’s a lot of teams checking in [on Taylor Hall],” he said. “One of them I’m wondering, if it can work for salary cap reasons is St. Louis. The Blues all of a sudden are having trouble scoring.”

NHL Rumors: Friedman gets pushback on Blues and Hall

While a potential Blues acquisition is not out of the realm of possibility, Friedman wrote that he was told to pump the brakes on the trade thought.

Adams was believed to be discussing something with struggling St. Louis. I wondered if it would be Taylor Hall, but received pushback on that idea, so we’ll see where it goes. There are a ton of teams calling to see what he’s willing to do, and what it will take.

Of course what I find interesting is if it isn’t about Hall, what were the Blues and Sabres discussing? St. Louis needs scoring so is Sam Reinhardt a trade candidate? Maybe for Vince Dunn and more? Keep your eye on these two teams for a deal regardless.

NHL Rumors: Panthers hunting for a defenseman

Aaron Ekblad will be out for 12 weeks after fracturing his leg on Sunday against the Dallas Stars. The Panthers are now said to be looking for a right-handed defenseman to replace him. Dan Rosen of NHL.com speculated on the following possibilities.

  • Brandon Montour (BUF)
  • David Savard (CBJ)
  • Tony DeAngelo (FLA)

These are certainly interesting options, especially mentioning Tony DeAngelo. Of the three he would bring the most offense if the Panthers are willing to take the risk and eat the entire contract.

NHL Rumors: Sutter and Gaudreau not getting along

As the Flames continue to lose more than win, Darryl Sutter seems to have found his favorite target to vent his frustrations on. Johnny Gaudreau is a player he wants and expects more out of and he’s been pretty vocal about it.

The question is will this be the last straw for Gaudreau in Calgary? He has just one more year remaining on his deal which pays him $6.75 million. While conventional wisdom suggests a larger return at the NHL Draft, a deal to a team looking for 27 year-old scoring forward could be possible. The Flyers have been linked to Johnny Hockey for a long time, but they need defense so the timing isn’t right.
