NHL Recaps: October 5, 2022
The preseason schedule was light on Wednesday night with just 5 games on tap.
Tomorrow, the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks will officially open the 2022-23 season with two games in Prague (October 7 and 8). The rest of the NHL will start to get underway on October 11 when the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the New York Rangers and the Vegas Golden Knights on the road against the Los Angeles Kings.

NHL Recaps: Avs win a tight one
Avalanche 2 vs Stars 1
New Avs goalie Alexandar Georgiev (32 saves)was able to pick up the win thanks to some key stops and defensive plays. Logan O’Connor and Mikko Rantanen each scored a goal for Colorado, while Riley Damiani was the only one to get a puck by Georgiev. Anton Khudobin and Scott Wedgewood combined for 31 saves for Dallas in the loss.
Capitals 4 vs Red Wings 2

Alex Ovechkin scored his first goal of the preseason into an empty net and helped the Caps take down the Wings. Washington’s captain also picked up an assist on the team’s first goal by Connor McMichael. Nick Jensen and Connor Brown were the other Caps scorers. Darcy Kuemper went the distance for Washington stopping 31 of 33 shots. Tyler Bertuzzi notched his first of the exhibition season and Ville Husso made 31 saves for the Wings.
Bruins 5 vs Rangers 4
David Pastrnak made his preseason debut and feasted on a sloppy Rangers defense. Along with fellow Czechs David Krejci and Pavel Zacha they ate up Jaroslav Halak (21-26) with a goal each. Pastrnak and Zacha added 2 assists apiece, while Krejci had one. Mika Zibanejad and Kaapo Kakko each had two goals for the Rangers in the loss. Jeremy Swayman made 28 stops for the victory.
Igor Shesterkin was scheduled to start but minutes before the opening face-off was replaced by Halak due to a stomach flu.
Jets 5 vs Flames 0
Kyle Connor register 2 goals to give him 3 in the preseason beating the Flames easily. Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Dominic Toninato were the other Jets goal scorers. David Rittich made 37 saves for the shutout.
Canucks 5 vs Oilers 4
Connor McDavid registered his first goal of the preseason and added two assists, but that couldn’t save the Oilers from the flying Canucks. Elias Pettersson notched 2 goals for Vancouver with help from Conor Garland, Nils Hoglander, and Tanner Pearson. Spencer Martin went the distance for the Canucks stopping 17.
