The Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule for Friday night had two games on the docket.
Florida’s magical postseason ride continues as the Panthers eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights used three quick goals to go up 3-2 in their series versus the Edmonton Oilers.
NHL Playoff Recaps: Panthers advance
Nick Cousins scored at 15:32 of overtime and the visiting Florida Panthers defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 Friday night to clinch their Eastern Conference second-round playoff series in five games.
Radko Gudas earned the assist on the second goal of the playoffs for Cousins, who made no mistake on his 21-foot wrist shot. Aaron Ekblad and Carter Verhaeghe each had a goal and an assist for Florida.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 51 shots for Florida in a duel of goaltenders. Joseph Woll made 41 saves for Toronto.
The Maple Leafs overcame a 2-0 disadvantage to tie the game in the third period on William Nylander’s goal. In the second period, Morgan Rielly got the Leafs on the board at the 7:50 mark. The defenseman thought he had tied the game at 17:11 of the second when the puck was jammed against Bobrovsky’s skate on the goal line, but it was determined that the whistle had blown.
The Panthers, who upset the league-leading Boston Bruins in the first round, won all three games in Toronto during the best-of-seven series. The Maple Leafs’ victory came in Game 4 on the road.
The Panthers advance to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference finals.
NHL Playoff Recaps: Golden Knights one win away

Jack Eichel had a goal and two assists and Vegas set a franchise playoff record with three goals in a 89-second span en route to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the Western Conference Second Round of the Stanley Cup playoffs Friday night in Las Vegas.
Mark Stone, Reilly Smith and Nicolas Hague each scored goals during the 89-second span late in the second period, Jonathan Marchessault tied the team playoff record for assists in a game with three and Adin Hill finished with 32 saves as Vegas took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Golden Knights can clinch a berth in the Western Conference Final with a Game 6 win on Sunday night in Edmonton.
Connor McDavid scored two goals, Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evan Bouchard each added a pair of assists for Edmonton. Stuart Skinner stopped 18 of 22 shots before being replaced by Jack Campbell, who made nine saves, with 4:26 left in the second period.
