NHL Playoff Recaps: Kings edge Oilers in OT, Isles explode late, Wild and Bruins win

NHL Playoff Recaps:  April 21, 2023

The Stanley Cup Playoffs saw another exciting night of hockey on Friday. After the evening was done, all four series found themselves at 2-1.

We begin the recaps with the Los Angeles Kings winning another game against the Edmonton Oilers in overtime.

NHL Playoff Recaps: Kings edge Oilers in OT

Kings 3 vs Oilers 2 (OT) (Series 2-1, LA)

Trevor Moore scored on an overtime power play to give the host Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday and a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference first-round playoff series.

Alex Iafallo and Adrian Kempe also scored for the Kings, who reached overtime thanks to an outstanding 38-save performance from goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. He stopped all 17 shots he faced in the third period.

Both Los Angeles victories in the series have come in overtime, and both after erasing a deficit.

Connor McDavid scored twice for the Oilers, and goalie Stuart Skinner stopped 28 shots. Defenseman Evan Bouchard collected two assists.

Wild 5 vs Stars 1 (Series 2-1, MIN)

Mats Zuccarello scored twice and Ryan Hartman added a goal and two assists to lift Minnesota to a win over Dallas in Game 3 of their Western Conference first-round series in Saint Paul, Minn.

Marcus Johansson and Marcus Foligno also scored for the Wild, took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. John Klingberg added two assists, and Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves for Minnesota.

Luke Glendening scored for the Stars, who will look to even the series in Game 4 on Sunday in Saint Paul. Jake Oettinger finished with 20 saves.

Islanders 5 vs Hurricanes 1 (Series 2-1, CAR)

Kyle Palmieri and Matt Martin scored in a 44-second span late in the third period to spark a historic outburst by host New York, which beat Carolina in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference first-round playoff series in Elmont, N.Y.

Palmieri redirected a shot by Sebastian Aho as the Islanders’ fifth power play of the game expired with 3:51 left before Martin added the insurance goal for New York. Scott Mayfield scored an empty-netter with 1:49 left and Anders Lee scored 16 seconds later. The four goals in 2:17 marked the fastest four-goal flurry in NHL playoff history.

Casey Cizikas scored in the second for the Islanders, who were playing their first playoff game at two-year-old UBS Arena. Goalie Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves. Jesper Fast scored in the second for the Hurricanes, while Antti Raanta recorded 32 saves. Game 4 is Sunday afternoon in Elmont.

Bruins 4 vs Panthers 2 (Series 2-1, BOS)

Linus Ullmark made 29 saves as top-seeded Boston defeated host Florida in a first-round playoff series in Sunrise, Fla.

The Bruins, who got goals from Taylor Hall, Charlie Coyle, David Pastrnak and Nick Foligno, lead the best-of-seven series, 2-1. Game 4 is set for Sunday afternoon in Sunrise.

Florida managed two goals in the final five minutes — by Gustav Forsling and Sam Reinhart. Panthers goalie Alex Lyon made 23 saves but was pulled with 11:28 left in the third, right after Pastrnak’s goal made it 3-0.
