NHL News: Wild put Mats Zuccarello, Rem Pitlick on COVID protocol; TJ Oshie week-to-week; and Max Domi off IR

The Minnesota Wild placed forwards Mats Zuccarello and Rem Pitlick in the NHL COVID-19 protocol on Thursday.

The team recalled forwards Connor Dewar and Kyle Rau as well as defenseman Jon Lizotte from Iowa of the American Hockey League.

Wild place Zuccarello on COVID list

Zuccarello, 34, has seven points (three goals, four assists) in six games with Minnesota this season. He has 434 points (143 goals, 291 assists) in 624 career games with the New York Rangers, Dallas Stars and Wild.

Pitlick, 24, has one assist in one game this season and three in 12 career contests with the Nashville Predators and Wild.

Dewar, 22, has four points (two goals, two assists) in four games with Iowa this season.

Like Dewar, Lizotte has yet to appear in an NHL game. The 26-year-old has one assist in four games with the AHL’s Wild in 2021-22.

Rau, 29, has recorded five points (two goals, three assists) in four games with Iowa this season. He has seven points (two goals, five assists) in 56 career NHL games with Florida and Minnesota.

Capitals lose T.J. Oshie

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie sustained a lower-body injury in Wednesday night’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

The team announced Thursday that Oshie is week-to-week with the injury.

Per the Athletic, Oshie is in a walking boot and on crutches.

Oshie, 34, has four goals and two assists in seven games this season, including a hat trick in Monday’s 7-5 victory against the Ottawa Senators.

He has 616 career points (264 goals, 352 assists) in 863 games with the St. Louis Blues (2008-15) and Capitals. The Blues drafted him in the first round (24th overall) in 2005, and he won a Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018.

The Capitals (4-0-3) lead the Metropolitan Division with 11 points heading into Friday night’s game with the visiting Arizona Coyotes.

Max Domi back early

The Columbus Blue Jackets activated forward Max Domi off injured reserve on Thursday.

Domi missed four games with a rib fracture sustained in a game against the expansion Seattle Kraken on Oct. 16. Despite being injured, Domi fed Patrik Laine for the game-winning goal in overtime.

The 26-year-old Domi is expected to return to the lineup for Friday’s game against the host New York Rangers.

Domi has four points (one goal, three assists) in two games after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason.

He has 279 points (91 goals, 188 assists) in 431 career games with the Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens and Blue Jackets. Domi was selected by the Coyotes with the 12th overall pick of the 2013 NHL Draft.
