NHL News: Sharks acquire Devan Dubnyk and what GM’s are saying as trade talks heat up

The San Jose Sharks have acquired Devan Dubnyk and 2022 7th rounder from the Minnesota Wild for a 5th round pick. For the Sharks they get a capable goalie if Martin Jones struggles. Minnesota also retains 50% of Dubnyk’s $4.33 million cap hit.

NHL News – What some of the GM’s are saying heading into the draft

Marc Bergevin, Canadiens: “If something makes sense for us, we will look into it,” Bergevin said. “But to sit here today and tell you that there is something that’s going on, I would be lying.”

Kyle Dubas, Maple Leafs: “We would like to be incredibly hard to play against and some of that does have to happen organically,” Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said. “But also there’s no doubt that it is something that we would like to address through free agency or through trades that come up. It is a priority of ours.”

Ken Holland, Oilers: “Obviously, a huge loss going into the 2020-21 season. You’re talking about our No. 1 defenceman [Oscar Klefbom], who runs the power play, on the first pairing, plays against the other team’s best players,” said Holland. “It’s had to replace those types of people. We’ve got some veterans on the left side: Darnell Nurse, Kris Russell, but I will be exploring free-agency on the weekend.”

Jeff Gorton, Rangers: “We’re really impressed with [Alexis Lafreniere],” Gorton said. “We’ve had a few Zooms with him. Obviously, we’ve done our homework on him. We’ve talked to a lot of people around him. He’s a really humble kid that gives credit to everybody around him. He’s a good family kid. He works really hard. He’s really focused.”

Kelly McCrimmon, Golden Knights: “I still think you’re going to see a number of trades over the course of the two days that take place.”

Bill Armstrong, Coyotes: “People are just staring other in the face, As soon as one [trade] falls, they are all going to fall.”

Don Sweeney, Bruins: “I’ve met with Zdeno. Had conversations, have continued to have conversations so that we have to be on the same as we move forward,” he told reporters over Zoom on Monday. “We’ve conveyed where we are with that and we’re going to continue to have communication with he and (Chara’s agent) Matt Keator.”
