NHL News: Senators next 3 games postponed; Flyers’ Ellis week-to-week; Avs’ Compher out a month
The NHL has approved a three-game postponement for the COVID-strapped Ottawa Senators, beginning with their Tuesday night game at New Jersey, multiple outlets reported.
The Senators currently have ten players — and an associate coach — in the league’s COVID-19 protocol.
COVID postpones Senators games
“The NHL will postpone games vs. New Jersey Tuesday along with Thursday vs. Nashville and Rangers here in Ottawa Saturday because of the COVID-19 outbreak with 10 players in protocol,” Bruce Garrioch reported.
The league also will postpone Ottawa’s home game against Nashville on Thursday, and Saturday’s contest vs. the New York Rangers, per the reports.
The news of the three game postponement is also subject to change if more positive cases continue.
Ottawa is coming off a 4-0 loss to Calgary on Sunday.
The Senators played shorthanded with these nine players sidelined in the COVID protocol: forwards Austin Watson, Alex Formenton, Dylan Gambrell and Connor Brown; defensemen Nick Holden, Victor Mete, Nikita Zaitsev and Josh Brown; and goalie Matt Murray.
Flyers lose Ellis again

Poor Ryan Ellis is hurt again for the Philadelphia Flyers. The 30 year-old defenseman, who finally returned to action since October 20th, will be week-to-week according to head coach Alain Vigneault.
In Saturday’s contest Dallas, Ellis re-injured himself.
“We’re going to investigate the problem, continue to investigate,” Flyers coach Alain Vigneault said via NHL.com. “There’s definitely some issues there and hopefully we can get him back in the near future.
Ellis has a point in all 4 games he’s played for the Flyers this season (1G – 4A).
Avs lose J.T. Compher
Colorado Avalanche forward J.T. Compher is expected to be sidelined one month with an upper-body injury, coach Jared Bednar announced Monday.
Compher sustained the injury during the first period of the Avalanche’s 6-2 win against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Compher has been playing on the top line with star forward Nathan MacKinnon on injured reserve.
Compher is tied with captain Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen for the team lead with five goals. He also has four assists in 12 games this season.
Compher has recorded 118 points (58 goals, 60 assists) in 283 career games over six seasons with the Avalanche.
