NHL News: Sabres on verge of goalie trade, and Penguins lose Evgeni Malkin to injury
We may have our first goalie trade coming soon. Per NHL Network analyst, Kevin Weekes the Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche could be on the verge of a trade involving Jonas Johansson.
Sabres and Avalanche close to a deal
The Colorado Avalanche have been sniffing around the goalie market for awhile. They want to make sure they have goalie depth for the playoffs, but Phillip Grubauer is the #1 man in net for the Avs.
Johansson is a 25 year-old net minder who is 0-5-1 this season for the Sabres. He has a GAA of 3.79 and a SV% of .884. The 6-5 goalie does cover a lot of net naturally and was a 3rd round pick in 2014. Judging him behind this Buffalo defense would be unfair to say the least.
Penguins lose Malkin week-to-week

The Penguins are dealing with an injury to one of their best players. Evgeni Malkin is considered week-to-week after suffering a lower-body injury against the Bruins this week. The 34 year-old pivot has 24 points in 29 games this season for Pittsburgh.
“Obviously when you lose Geno, it’s a tough loss from our standpoint for everything that he brings to our team. But we are certainly encouraged that, hopefully, we will get him back in a timely fashion,” Sullivan told reporters Friday.

Malkin has been rumored to be a trade candidate this offseason.
