NHL News: Sabres Jack Eichel out for season with neck issue; Stars Ben Bishop and Alexander Radulov to miss remainder of season

The Buffalo Sabres announced Jack Eichel will miss the remainder of the season due to a herniated disc in his neck. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready to play next season.

Nightmare season over for Jack Eichel

In early March, Eichel came up wincing in pain after a hit while playing the Islanders. “Jack went back to Buffalo early, still being assessed,” former coach Ralph Krueger told the media soon after. “He’ll be out minimum a week. We have an upper-body situation that needs some deeper analysis before we decide further.”

Eichel then went out of town to seek a second opinion. Now his nightmare season is over due to injury. However; even if he were able to fight through it that wouldn’t make much sense in a lost season.

What remains is if the Sabres will entertain trading him this offseason.

In other Sabres news, they announced the hiring of Jason Karmanos to associate general manager.

The Stars are still fighting for a playoff spot but they will do so without their number one goalie Ben Bishop and forward Alex Radulov. GM Jim Nill gave the following updates.

On Ben Bishop: “It has been determined that Bishop will not return to play this season, allowing him time to continue his rehabilitation and return to full health for the 2021-22 season.”

On Alex Radulov: “Radulov will require surgery to repair a core muscle injury. The surgery will force him to miss the remainder of the season. He is expected to be fully recovered for the 2021-22 season.”
