NHL news: Ryan O’Reilly next Blues captain, fans in stands, and GM’s get to work

The St. Louis Blues lost their captain Alex Pietrangelo to the Vegas Golden Knights this offseason. Fortunately they have a perfect replacement.

NHL News: Blues set to name Ryan O’Reilly next captain

St. Louis beat writer, Jeremy Rutherford reported yesterday that Ryan O’Reilly will be named the 23rd captain of the Blues. “He will make a great captain,” Pietrangelo told Rutherford. “Good luck to him, no doubt he is the right choice.”

O’Reilly was acquired from the Sabres back in 2018 and helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup in his first season. He was a force during that run with 23 points in 26 games and being named the Conn Smythe Trophy for Playoff MVP.

Fans at NHL games from puck drop

Some teams announced they will allow fan attendance to start the season. While the majority of teams will not be able to due to local restrictions, fans in these cities can attend games.

Starting on day one, the Arizona Coyotes, Florida Panthers, and Dallas Stars will have limited fans in the arena. Other teams are working on seeing if they can have fans in attendance but those are the three confirmed.
