NHL news: Trade delay, Manon Rheaume, Stamkos for game 3?

Before tonight’s face-off for game three of the Stanley Cup Final, let’s check in on some news and notes.

NHL news – Trade delay between the Penguins and Panthers

Earlier today trade news broke that the Penguins trade Patric Hornqvist to Florida for Mike Matheson. As soon as the news began to break, there were other reports that the deal hit a snag.

Here’s what Elliotte Friedman just wrote about it:

A couple of sources indicated Wednesday afternoon the trade was falling apart, but I’m careful with that because you never know what can happen. The two teams were considering it, and, from what I understand, there were two hurdles. The first was Hornqvist’s no-trade. The second is his contract. The Panthers had concerns about insurance in case of injury, and would the winger’s deal be covered?

So will this deal go through? We should find out soon. Regardless, we just found out those two players are available and on the move.

NHL news – 28 years ago, Manon Rheaume became the first woman to play

I was in my late teens when she made her debut. Yes, Phil Esposito admitted it was a publicity stunt, but he also conceded she was good. It was really such a cool thing to see. Congrats to a pioneer, Manon Rheaume.

NHL news – Will Stamkos play tonight?

Lightning head coach, Jon Cooper says he’s is “inching closer”. Apparently he did not skate with the team today so the answer appears to be not yet. Of course, if he takes warm ups he just might.

NHL news – End of an Era in Ottawa

Longtime Senators goalie, Craig Anderson will be moving on. Ottawa has announced they will not bring him back.
