NHL News: Ducks’ Getzlaf week-to-week, and Blue Jackets place Korpisalo on IR
Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, the team announced Friday.
Getzlaf sustained the injury during the first period of the Ducks’ 5-4 shootout victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. The center sat out Anaheim’s next game the following night.
Ducks lose Getzlaf
“Last time I looked, a week is seven days,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said Friday. “You’re always hopeful the guy is going to respond to treatment and that it’s not as bad as we thought it was. If you want to put a timetable on it, there never really is one. He’ll be ready to play when he’s ready to play.”
Getzlaf, 36, has a team-leading 19 assists to go along with one goal in 23 games this season.
The Ducks’ all-time leader in games played (1,124), assists (722) and points (1,002), Getzlaf has spent his entire 17-year career with the franchise. His 280 career goals are fourth most in franchise history.
The 19th overall pick of the 2003 NHL Draft, Getzlaf won a Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007 and gold medals with Canada at the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014. He has captained Anaheim since 2010-11.
Blue Jackets place Korpisalo on IR

The Columbus Blue Jackets placed goaltender Joonas Korpisalo on injured reserve as he remains sidelined with a non-COVID illness.
The move is retroactive to Wednesday.
