NHL News: Devils name Nico Hischier captain, Mike Babcock back to coaching, and Adam Henrique on waivers
The New Jersey Devils have announced Nico Hischier as the team’s new captain. Kevin Weekes broke the news prior to the Devils making it official.
New Jersey Devils name Nico Hischier captain
Per the team’s press release:
At 22 years and 47 days old, he is the youngest captain currently in the NHL and the second youngest in New Jersey history (Kirk Muller, 21 years and 243 days old; both Muller and Hischier were handed the captaincy at the start of their fourth NHL season). Hischier also becomes just the second current Swiss-born captain in the League joining Roman Josi (Nashville). Hischier will make his season debut this afternoon versus Buffalo after missing the club’s first 11 games with a leg injury.
Hischier will be the team’s 12th captain in their history and is the youngest active captain in the NHL.
Mike Babcock back to coaching

According to a report from Darren Dreger, Mike Babcock has accepted the job as the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
Not the NHL of course, but certainly a stepping stone to repair his image as a hard coach to play for.
NHL News: Ducks place Adam Henrique on waivers
In a bit of a shocking move, the Ducks have placed Adam Henrique on waivers. Their hope is someone picks him up and his entire cap hit, if not it sets the table for a trade with salary retention soon.
