NHL News: COVID list grows as Stars captain Jamie Benn enters protocol, plus more Habs and Leafs positive cases
The Dallas Stars placed captain Jamie Benn, fellow forward Luke Glendening and defenseman Ryan Suter into the COVID-19 protocols on Wednesday.
One support staff member also entered the NHL’s health and safety protocols on Wednesday, bringing the team’s totals to 11 players and three support staffers on the COVID list.
Idle since Dec. 20, the Stars are scheduled to resume their season Sunday against the host Arizona Coyotes.
Benn, 32, has 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 29 games this season.
Glendening, 32, has eight pints (five goals, three assists) in 29 games.
Suter, 36, has 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 29 games.
They joined Radek Faksa, Jani Hakanpaa, Miro Heiskanen, Roope Hintz, Joel Kiviranta, Esa Lindell, Michael Raffl and Jason Robertson in the protocols.
Canadiens COVID news

Montreal Canadiens forward Paul Byron and goaltender Cayden Primeau entered COVID-19 protocols Wednesday.
Primeau was just called up from the AHL’s Laval Rocket on Monday after goalie Jake Allen and four others landed in the health and safety protocols.
Primeau, 22, is 1-2-0 this season for Montreal with a .904 save percentage and 3.65 goals-against average.
Byron, 32, has not yet played in a game this season as he continues to recover from offseason hip surgery.
He has 201 points (94 goals, 107 assists) in 494 NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames and Montreal.
The Canadiens, who lost 5-4 in overtime Tuesday to the Tampa Bay Lightning, are scheduled to begin a four-game road trip Thursday night at Carolina.
Maple Leafs COVID news
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren entered COVID-19 protocols on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Swede has four assists in 19 games this season.
Liljegren has five assists in 32 games over the past three seasons with the Maple Leafs, who drafted him in the first round (17th overall) in 2017.
Idle since Dec. 14, Toronto is scheduled to resume its season Saturday against the visiting Ottawa Senators.
Liljegren joins seven other Leafs players in the protocols: David Kampf, Ilya Mikheyev, Petr Mrazek, Rasmus Sandin, Morgan Rielly, William Nylander and Jake Muzzin.
