NHL News: Canucks win wild shootout against Canadiens, Hurricanes game postponed, and Alex Ovechkin apologizes
The Vancouver Canucks (2-3) managed to tie the Canadiens (2-0-2) and prevail in a shootout last night. It was a wild affair where Tyler Toffoli picked up the 4th hat-trick of this early hockey season, and Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser each scored twice.
“We needed that win, obviously, standings-wise but also for confidence,” Bo Horvat said after the victory. “And we can’t be satisfied with that. I think we’ve just got to keep building off it, keep our confidence and get ready to go again because they’re going to be coming again.”
NHL Scores and Highlights
Joe Thornton was injured last night in the Maple Leafs (3-2) 3-1 loss to the Oilers (2-3). Jumbo Joe apparently will “miss some time,” per head coach Sheldon Keefe.
San Jose (2-2-) beat St. Louis (2-1-1) 2-1 in OT last night, but apparently the buzz in the game was Evander Kane spearing Jordan Binnington in the family jewels in the first period. He should at least expect a fine for his actions.
The rest of the action saw the Wild (3-1) edge the Ducks (1-2-1) 3-1, while the Golden Knights (4-0) remain undefeated and knocked off the Coyotes (1-2-1) 5-2.
NHL dealing with ramification of playing with COVID-19 reality
Tonight’s Panthers vs Hurricanes game has been postponed due to the amount of cases on Carolina. Last night, the Washington Capitals were fined $100,000 for violating COVID protocols.
Their next game against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday could be postponed as Alex Ovechkin and 3 other big players for the Caps have landed on the protocol list. They are likely going through some testing.
NHL News: Alex Ovechkin apologizes
After the fine was dealt, Ovechkin issued an apology for his violation. “I regret my choice to spend time together with my teammates in our hotel room and away from the locker room areas,” Ovi wrote. “I will learn from this experience.”
