NHL News: Blue Jackets scratch top trade bait candidate David Savard; and Canucks extend Tanner Pearson
The Columbus Blue Jackets are scratching David Savard tonight as the NHL Trade Deadline is just days away. He’s currently at the top of TSN’s Trade Bait List and there’s rumblings he could be on the move soon.
Blue Jackets scratch David Savard
David Savard is a 30 year-old righty defenseman that will be a UFA this summer. While Elliotte Friedman believes the Tampa Bay Lightning are the stealth team to get him; I’m banking on the Florida Panthers. No team is more desperate as they lost Aaron Ekblad for the season. Another team that could slide in are the Montreal Canadiens.
Montreal has some cap space now with Brendan Gallagher on LTIR; but Florida just cleared a ton of cap space could blow the trade doors wide open.
Vancouver Canucks extend Tanner Pearson

We can remove another name off our Trade Bait Tracker! The Canucks have re-signed pending UFA Tanner Pearson to a three year deal. The AAV comes in at $3.25 million. The 28 year-old has 11 points in 33 games this season. Last year he put up 45 in 69 games which is his expected production. He’s a very good fit for Vancouver’s plans going forward.
