It has been long rumored but today the Vancouver Canucks made it official. Defenseman Travis Hamonic has signed a PTO with the Canucks and is at training camp.

NHL Rumors: Travis Hamonic to sign contract with the Canucks

In a very similar situation to Mike Hoffman with the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver will sign Hamonic once the season starts. It is expected the Canucks will put Michael Ferland on LTIR thus freeing enough cap space to sign Hamonic to a one-year deal.

NHL News: Minnesota Wild name Jared Spurgeon captain

The Minnesota Wild have named defenseman Jared Spurgeon their new captain. The 31 year-old scored 32 points in 62 contests last season. Spurgeon will have both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter as his alternate captains.

NHL Rumors: Interest in Sami Vatanen growing

It is believed a large amount of teams are talking with UFA defenseman Sami Vatanen. The Carolina Hurricanes remain in the mix but are unlikely to be able to bring him back.

Expect Vatanen to sign with a team soon.
