NHL News and Rumors: Conor Sheary signs with Capitals, Devils sign Mackenzie Blackwood, and more

When it came to bargain free agents, we marked Conor Sheary as one of them. Yesterday, he inked a one year show me deal with the Washington Capitals for one year at $735,000.

NHL Rumors: Conor Sheary top 10 bargain bin signing

Back in November, I ranked 28 year-old winger Conor Sheary 8th on my 10 ten bargain bin UFAs.

The diminutive winger plays an aggressive style that could help a team’s bottom six. Conor Sheary’s production has dipped ever since 2016-17 where he scored 53 points in just 61 games. At this point when you look at the field, he’s not going to get anywhere close to $3 million per season. That’s what his last deal paid and he’s should get a one year deal to prove his worth in 2021.

The future of the Devils net is set with the signing of Mackenzie Blackwood for three season with an AAV of $2.8 million.

“Mackenzie is going to be one of the key young, core pieces for this organization for a long time and we are excited and extremely happy to have him under contract,” general manager Tom Fitzgerald said in a statement. “He’s obviously shown that he can be a number one goalie, and the sky’s the limit for him.”
