NHL Headlines: Maple Leafs crazy for Joe Thornton, and Henrik Lundqvist’s new throne

Maple Leafs media is fawning over 41 year-old Joe Thornton. At last check this offseason, Toronto had signed players like T.J. Brodie and Zach Bogosian for their defense. They also added forwards like Wayne Simmonds and Jimmy Vesey for grit in their lineup. They are now all overshadowed.

Maple Leafs crazy for Joe Thornton

Almost every day since it was rumored Joe Thornton might sign with the Maple Leafs there’s been a feature on him. Yesterday, he met with the Toronto media and explained how he needs to win a Cup. Well that sent outlets like Sportsnet and the Toronto Sun into a tizzy.

“I need to win a Stanley Cup and I think this a great team that could do that,” Jumbo Joe said in a Zoom call. Listen, this is standard stuff for a veteran/legend of the game. I mean, Henrik Lundqvist said the same thing but that didn’t turn into four separate features after his conference.

Just in case you haven’t seen this all over social media, did you know Joe Thornton even spoke with Joe Montana for advice? Listen, this is a solid signing for the Leafs and he will help, but this isn’t 31 year-old Joe Thornton they are getting. Be realistic.

You may now call me a party pooper in the comments.
