Nashville Predators bring back Mikael Granlund on a one year deal

Another UFA is off the board as Mikael Granlund will return to Nashville on a one year deal with an AAV of $3.75 million per Elliotte Friedman.

Predators land Granlund

According to recent reporting leading up to the deal, Granlund was looking to get his family settled before deciding. The latest rumors had at least four teams as contenders to land him with Pierre LeBrun believing the Carolina Hurricanes were one of those teams.

“Our discussions with clubs started to increase earlier in the week and I would say a sense or urgency began Thursday into Friday,” Granlund’s agent Todd Diamond said Sunday. “GMs and coaches of clubs that believe they have a chance to win want to know their rosters on Day 1.”

Now the 28 year-old center is back with the Predators when many thought he was done there. After six and half seasons with the Wild, he was traded to Nashville but struggled to get going offensively.

Of course, this is at a reduced cost compared to the $5.75 million cap hit he carried when he was acquired.
